The discussion about the admission of refugees has presently become an integral part of the German public discourse. But the admission is only the first, urgent step. Soon the next, longer-term challenges will come up: to strengthen the refugees, to educate them, to find work for them and to permanently integrate them into our society.

The Hello Festival, which will took place from 18th – 20th March 2016 at the Arena Berlin, dedicated its theme to the integration of refugees – with a versatile program allowing the attendants to engage, learn and play:

FRIDAY, 18th March 2016

Germany is not alone in its challenge of integrating great numbers of refugees. We have international role models that can provide us with their valuable experiences with migration. At the Innovation Conference on Integration on 18th March 2016, Ashoka brought these international entrepreneurs together with potential partners and decision makers from the fields of social services, economy, politics, administration and foundations. Together, they confront the challenges of migration that the German society faces today. EVERYONE IS A CHANGEMAKER is the aim and motto of Ashoka.

TEDx gives a voice to people with outstanding ideas and new projects worth spreading all over the world. As partner of the Hello Festival, TEDxBerlin gave 1,500 people the chance to listen to inspiring speakers that shared their personal stories about migration, integration and identity at a TEDxBerlinSalon on 19th March 2016.

SUNDAY, 20th March 2016

CHANGING THE WORLD THROUGH FOOTBALL is the motto of streetfootballworld, the global NGO that harnesses the power of football for good. They see football as not just a game but rather a great uniting force. Whether in the favelas of Latin America, the African townships or the marginalized neigbourhoods in Berlin, football has the power to bring people together and work on the most relevant topics. On Sunday, 20th March 2016, streetfootballworld held a streetfootball tournament at Arena Berlin. The teams consisted of refugees and volunteers. Learn more about streetfootballworld.

A great number of well-tried solutions for the challenges arising in the aftermath of migration already exist worldwide. 15 selected, especially effective concepts presented themselves at the Ashoka Conference. With the donations into the innovation fund for integration, the spreading of the best out of these solutions is facilitated in Germany.
